Key Stage 3

The Key Stage 3 programme in English, Maths and Science is designed to support those children who are in Years 7 to 9, the crucial pre-GCSE stage. Children are divided into two groups and are allocated to a group according to their Year group and ability level. Classes run during term time on evenings and weekends and work can be re-enforced and strengthened via the Holiday School.

Class sizes are small and children receive sufficient individualised time and attention from the teacher in order to get the help needed with the topics with which they are struggling. Children normally attend for one hour per week per subject; this can either be on a weekday or on a weekend. Each week’s lesson follows a specified programme to support the UK National Curriculum.

Learning is carried out via formal teaching, work-book based activities, interactive paper practice and some past paper practice. As children near their GCSEs, they are encouraged to approach their work with greater independence and creativity to make them better learners.

Children also have the chance to take the University of Cambridge Checkpoint Diagnostic Test at the end of this programme which is a good indicator of topic-wise strengths and weaknesses in advance of starting the GCSE course.
