ICT Programme

The Regent Learning ICT Programme, which runs during term-time, is a comprehensive programme which allows students from the age of 5 to use the latest hardware and software with confidence. Technology plays an ever greater part in our lives and it is imperative that children establish solid IT skills from an early age in order to keep up with advancements in education and obtain the skills that will later be required by an employer.

With that in mind, Regent Learning has designed a programme, in line with the UK National Curriculum which teaches students to use a computer both competently and confidently.

The programme is not age-based, but ability based.

Students are divided into three groups:

• ICT Walkers
• ICT Runners
• ICT Flyers

Once we have gauged how experienced a student is in using a computer via our free-of-charge assessment, then we allocate a group accordingly and students move up through the groups according to their progress.

The eventual aim is that once a student has completed the Flyers stage, they will be able to sit and succeed in the GCSE in ICT, a very worthy addition to a student’s Record of Achievement. We encourage all students to attend ICT lessons during the Holiday School to consolidate what they have learnt over the term but this is particularly important for students hoping to obtain their ICT GCSE as the contact time is generally much lower than what it would be in a standard school environment and a considerable amount of time is required to successfully complete the Project, the coursework element of ICT GCSE.

Learning is mostly practically based in the computer labs but also includes tasks, projects and review sessions as well as some writing based tasks and students can not only work towards the GCSE, but can also bring in their schoolwork for assistance with that.
